SAMHA Teams Interested in Hosting
Tournament Hosts
For the 2019/20 hockey season, SAMHA teams were given the opportunity to apply to host a tournament in St. Albert and area. Teams representing the following divisions were the successful tournament hosts:

Additional information
Benefits of hosting a tournament:
- An opportunity to participate in a tournament for divisions/tiers that may not have many options
- Fundraising to offset team fees
- No travel required
Considerations:
- The number of teams that can be accepted into the tournament will depend on ice availability
- The team/group of teams organizing the tournament will need to come up with seed money to cover any initial costs to run the tournament (e.g. medals, shirts, programs)
- The tournament ice will likely be distributed over two or more facilities (e.g. Jarome Iginla/Kinex complex, Servus Credit Union Place or perhaps outside of St. Albert)
- The team/group of teams will be responsible for running the tournament from start to finish. The SAMHA office will be available to provide consultative support only. Prior to applying to host a tournament as a team (or group of teams), at least 50% of parents within the team(s) MUST be in support of hosting. A parent vote is required prior to applying and parents will need to be aware of the following volunteer commitments:
Mandatory
- Tournament Chair - oversees all tournament volunteers, delegates work, and acts as the primary point of contact for visiting teams
- Treasurer - opens and manages a tournament bank account, establishes a tournament budget, collects and counts all cash, supplies a float for each draw, prepares financial statements following the tournament
- Volunteer Coordinator - slots volunteers into shifts and facilitates changes as needed
- Game Sheet Coordinator - creates roster labels for game sheets prior to tournament, collects and uploads all game sheets for Hockey Alberta, supplies hard copies to SAMHA office following the tournament
- Timekeepers and Scorekeepers for each game - includes a minimum of one person for the clock, one for the game sheet and potentially additional volunteers to run the music and penalty boxes
- Scheduler - creates the tournament schedule and submits draws to the SAMHA Ice Allocator, schedules and pay referees for each game
- Scoresheet Representative - updates rink scoresheet or online scoresheet so participating teams can track game times
- Discipline Committee Members - reviews and handles any discipline issues (must include a SAMHA board member)
- Selection Committee Members - decides on teams to be accepted, sends out notifications, collects team rosters and send to SAMHA office
- All tournament information must be submitted for approval to the HOCVP before the application will be considered
Optional
- Silent Auction Table Coordinator and representatives - obtains silent auction items, collects cash, manages raffle tickets, obtains AGLC license (also applies to 50/50 draws)
- 50/50 Coordinator and ticket sellers - sells tickets before, after and during games, coordinate 50/50 draw
- Special Events and Awards Coordinator - Plans and executes special activities and awards e.g. skills competition, heart and hustle game awards, tournament medals
- Shopper(s) - buy 50/50 ticket roles, food and drinks, ticket containers
- Program Coordinator - designs, creates and prints tournament programs (include tournament rules, rosters, local information, sponsor information)
